Product Description of Ichthosulfonate CAS#8029-68-3
Ichthosulfonate, also known under the alternative names Ichthammol and Ammonium Ichthosulfonate, is a complex mixture manufactured through the sulfation and ammoniation reaction of bituminous schists. At ambient temperature, it occurs as a thick liquid ranging from brown-black to dark-brown, with strong tar-like and burning-sharp odour. It dissolves readily in water and is fully miscible with glycerol. The substance is only slightly soluble in 96-percent ethanol, fatty oils and liquid paraffin, yet it can form homogeneous blends with lanolin and soft paraffin.
