Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane, also known as D5 or Cyclopentasiloxane, is a cyclic volatile methylsiloxane. It is a colorless, clear and nearly odorless low-viscosity liquid. It features low surface tension, excellent spreadability and moderate volatility, and is insoluble in water while miscible with most cosmetic oils and organic solvents. It owns stable chemical performance and inert properties, and will not leave greasy residue after volatilization.
It is available in cosmetic-grade with high purity, widely recognized as a classic silicone raw material for personal care formulations. It also serves as a basic monomer for synthesizing other silicone derivatives and silicone elastomers.

D5 is a widely used volatile silicone fluid.
