Products Description of Clavulanic Acid CAS#58001-44-8
Clavulanic acid is a naturally occurring beta-lactamase inhibitor produced by the microorganism Streptomyces clavuligerus, with a molecular formula of C8H9NO5 and a molecular weight of 199.16. It is supplied as a white to off white crystalline powder, typically in the form of its stable potassium salt for commercial pharmaceutical use.
Clavulanic acid acts by irreversibly inactivating a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby protecting co-administered beta-lactam antibiotics from enzymatic degradation and restoring their activity against resistant bacterial strains.

Product Application of Clavulanic Acid CAS#58001-44-8
Clavulanic-acid acts as a beta-lactamase suppressing agent. Its standalone germ-killing capacity remains relatively mild, yet it can efficiently block beta-lactamase secreted by staphylococcus strains and the majority of gram-negative microbes.
This ingredient creates irreversible binding complexes with beta-lactamase and deactivates the target enzyme. Mixed together with beta-lactam antibacterial agents, it shields medicines from enzyme-triggered breakdown, strengthens bactericidal potency, extends the antimicrobial range and tackles drug-resistant bacteria.
For real-world medical usage, it is frequently compounded with other antibiotics. Its mixture with amoxicillin is marketed as Augmentin, and the ticarcillin-matched preparation goes under the brand-name Timentin.
